The Call and Post, Ohio's AfricanAmerican newspaper, printed a statement on the state of civil rights in this country by Dr. Mary Frances Berry, chairperson of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, in response to President Clinton's State of the Union address. In her statement Dr. Berry wrote "The civil rights movement brought greater opportunity to more people in this country, but we are far from ending invidious discrimination and providing justice for all. Ending discrimination on the basis of sex,

age and disability and ending discrimination against gays and lesbians, and ending sexual harassment are all part of the unfinished civil rights agenda.'

Bowling by moonlight

Gary, shown here keeping score, was one of the 85 people who came out for G.I.F.T.'s (Gay Invitational Fellowship Tournament) monthly moonlight bowling at Ambassador Lanes.

Jim Gruzowsky, director of G.I.F.T., said "Moonlight bowling is something different to do with your friends besides going to the bars or a movie." He added, "It's a laid-back comfortable atmosphere and a chance to meet new people." Throughout the evening there are raffles, instant bingo and door prizes like baked goods and gift certificates. The second game of the night is "Crazy Bowling" a wacky chance to throw pro-bowling form out the window.

G.I.F.T. has been sponsoring Moonlight Bowling for over nine years and is a frequent contributor to many important organizations in the community such as Cleveland Pride and Kamana House.

The next Moonlight Bowling is Saturday March 26 at Ambassador Lanes, 1500 Superior Avenue, downtown Cleveland. The cost is $7.00 for three games and shoe rental. Indoor parking is available. Call 252-8933 for more information.

Book editor Janice Harayda reviewed Anonymity, Susan Bergman's autobiography that focuses on her father, who was a closeted, married gay man until he died of complica-
